My computer is running slower than before, so I run windows task manager and found that a process called ping.exe is consuming high CPU nearly 100% and it also takes up 1200K memory or up to 93,000k memory. My computer is windows xp 32 bit version. I noticed that the command process is not running. The ping.exe is located in c:\windows\system32. There are some random popup windows indicate that “congratulations! You win a big prize!” or “warning! Your computer is infected by Trojan.32.k!”. I keep killing the ping.exe process through task manager,but after a few minutes it shows again in task manner, and then my computer running slowly.When I delete it, windows told me “You need Permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes to this application”. Is ping.exe a virus? How to remove the ping.exe virus? Please advise…

Answer:

Ping.exe is generally a normal executable file in widows, this application is small and cause little system resources. If you didn’t run ping.exe by yourself, is there some other software run it? You can try start>run>Msconfig and remove all the startup programs that are useless. And restart your computer, if the ping.exe still show in task manager, we think your computer was get infected by ping.exe virus(Win32.Trojan.k). Ping.exe virus could run silently connect to the remote server and send your private information to hackers.
